On November 27, 1895, Alfred Nobel signed his last will and left
much of his wealth to the establishment of the Nobel Prize. Since 1901, the
Nobel Prize has been honoring men and women from all over the world for their
outstanding achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and for
work in peace.
In
1968, Sveriges Riksbank (the central bank of Sweden ) introduced "The
Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel".
Although, the Prize in Economics was not included in Nobel’s original list,
this award is given according to the same principles as for the Nobel Prizes.
This
website gives a comprehensive list on all laureates in Economics. It also has a
fascinating collection of the articles and video interviews of these laureates.
Some of these laureates are familiar to most AL students, for examples, Ronald H. Coase,
Milton Friedman, John R. Hicks, Geogre J. Stigler and Gary S. Becker. Their
theories or viewpoints are not comprehensible as these theories are part of
HKAL syllabus. For others like, Paul Krugman and Joseph E. Stiglitz, they are
the authors of the best selling books. For more details, please refer to my
articles 017. Are we missing something? 015. The conscience of an economist and
013. Why do you study economics?
Just an
interesting finding: there are seven Roberts among laureates in Economics!
